San Diego Bed and Breakfast

This is a write-up from one of our visitors at Cobblestone Cottage.

Crone's Cobblestone Inn

To stay at Crone's Cobblestone Cottage is to experience a rare interval
from life's chaos. It is a place of calmness. A respite.

The Cottage is located in the stately community of Mission Hills, and
is surrounded by vintage mansions. You will be near the energy of the City,
yet be removed enough to feel a sense of quietness and tranquillity.
This is a place where magic happens. Unlike the hustle-bustle of
commercial inns, it is a place where solitude prevails. It is a place where
folks come to find joy in themselves. It is a place where you will become
refreshed in body and spirit.

The two bedroom Cottage was constructed in 1914 as a Craftsman bungalow.
Take note of the Arts and Crafts style built-ins. The book cases on each
side of the fireplace, the drop-front desk. Look at the floating
double-crossbox beams of the living room ceiling.

After extensive restoration and a new addition, it has been transformed
into a gracious and elegant home. In 1993, it was designated an historic
landmark for its preservation of architectural details common to the area.
Just recently, the home received the Awared of Excellence from the San Diego
Home/Garden Magazine.

You will delight in your surroundings. The richness and comfort of the
living room. The elegance of the formal dining room. The coziness of the
den.

Look around you. Take in the beautiful artifacts; the writer's desks;
the antique furnishings, the lamps and chandeliers; the elegant table ware.
Look at the architecture of the home. The rich woods, the ceramic fireplace.
Settle in, enjoy the quiet. Hear the chime of the wall clock. Sniff the
fragrance of the freshly cut flowers that are placed about the Cottage.
At bedtime, you will crawl into a high cherry cannonball bed in the
Elliot room, or a brass bed in the Eaton room. You will slip between ironed
cotton sheets, and fall asleep effortlessly on goose-down pillows, under a
cozy down comforter.

The morning after, when you choose to pull yourself out of bed, you can
start your day with freshly squeezed orange juice, brewed coffee or tea,
home-made muffins and seasonal fruit. Sit on the front porch swing. Stretch
out your legs. Feel the glory of the new day. Breathe in the air. This is a
place to become unruffled.

Guests who have stayed at the Cottage have written notes in the bedside
journals. "It is a sanctuary," some have said. It is a place of solitude."
"There is an air that instills an inner peace."

One day, the time may come when you will want; when you will need the
serenity of The Cobblestone Inn. When that time comes for you to tend to
yourself; when that time comes for you to luxuriate in stately elegance, and
you want to feel really special, come, stay here.

Joan Crone

If you have stayed at other inns, you may know that the innkeeper is as
important as any of an inn's amenities. Indeed, it may be he or she that
determines the quality of your experience. Being cordial is not enough. A
pretentious affability hardly works. A good innkeeper is sincere. And a
truly good innkeeper is continually aware of their guests' needs and
desires.

Joan Crone has a knack of knowing the wishes and wants of her guests.
It's a rare talent. She is naturally sensitive and thoughtful woman, and
through the years, has become keenly aware of what people expect from their
stay at the Inn. More often than not, she will anticipate your needs, and
provide answers and solutions beforehand. She has a way of knowing.
Before focusing her creativity on her Inn, she was an award winning
photographer and writer. She conducts workshops in journal writing, and is
frequently asked to speak on the subject. She has received awards for her
work in the field of book-art, and is also a certified administer of the
Meyer-Briggs Type Indicator. As you may have guessed, word is out in the art
and literary world, that the Cobblestone Inn is the ideal environment for
visiting artists and writers.

Because of her affinity for communication, and her love of information,
she has amassed more than 1500 books on diverse subjects. They are
handsomely displayed throughout the Inn. Frequently, authors spend time here
to read and to research. You are invited to browse the titles and become
absorbed.

But more important than books, antiques, and amenities, it is the
genteel style of Joan Crone, her warm demeanor, grace, and in-depth
understanding of what one seeks from their visit that enhances the warmth
and creates the peaceful ambiance of the Cobblestone Inn.

Book Art and Journaling

Here are two more reasons to stay at Crones Cobblestone Cottage. While
at the Cottage, you can talk with Joan about Book Art and Journaling. Be
sure to ask her to show you some fine examples of her work.

Joan has hand-crafted numerous works of book-art. The small scale
scuptures crafted from paper are decorated with paraphernalia in any number
of shapes and sizes.

It has been said that sometimes one's best friend can be a sheet of
paper. Through journaling, paper can recieve all of one's emotions.

About San Diego
Hillcrest, Theaters, Zoo, Sea World, Museums, Downtown, Old Town, Gas
lamp Quarters

Just blocks from Crone's Cobblestone Cottage are two centers of
commercial activity. The area of Mission Hills, and Hillcrest.
When you're sitting on the front porch swing of the Cottage, you can see
the fringe of the Mission Hills retail community. If you choose, you can
take a stroll, and within minutes you can be sitting at one of the many
nearby restaurants--and there are many.

You can select from Italian cuisine, Mexican, Asian and Pacific Rim
Influences, and Parisian. There is also an English brew house, a bistro that
serves California cuisine, and a very popular Japanese restaurant.
Mission Hills has numerous other shops that will interest and delight
you. If you're into antiques, Mission Hills has a number of antique shops
that feature fine old world objects. From barber shops to butcher shops,
from ice cream shops to gift shops--just about everything is in Mission
Hills.

A bit further, yet still within easy walking distance, is the well know
area of San Diego called Hillcrest. Hillcrest is larger than Mission Hills,
and has an even greater selection of stores and boutiques. The area boasts
upscale clothiers, numerous coffee houses, new and used book stores, and art
galleries.

Two other adjacent neighborhoods to the Cottage are Little Italy, and
Old Town. Each has its own distinctive character. Little Italy is a little
Italy. There you will find authentic Italian foods, and many of the products
are imported from Italy. Pizza, of course, but there is much much more to
see, taste, and experience.

And of course, there is Old Town. Just a short walk west of the Cottage
is Presidio Park.
