San Deigo Historic Site 73 CASA DE STEWART

This house was built in the 1830s by Corporal Jose Manuel Machado, of the San DiegoPresidio Company, for his daughter, Rosa, when she married Jack Stewart. Stewartwas a shipmate of Richard Henry Dana, Jr. on the ship Alert. Stewart ismentioned in Two Years Before the Mast; a visit to the house is detailedin Dana's Twenty-four Years After.
